GAMMA Announces Major Governance Overhaul and Relocation to Switzerland at 2025 General Assembly

BALI, INDONESIA – The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) has officially entered a new era following its 2025 General Assembly held in Bali, Indonesia, on September 29, 2025. The assembly brought together representatives from 58 member nations to discuss the future of the sport and finalize key leadership changes.

Unanimous Election of New Leadership

In a historic move for the federation, Mr. Tommy Paulus Hermawan from Indonesia was elected by acclamation as the new President of GAMMA. Receiving unanimous support from all 58 members in attendance, Hermawan succeeds Alexander Engelhardt and will lead the organization through 2028. His election signals a strong commitment to global growth and the continued professionalization of amateur Mixed Martial Arts.

Constitutional Amendments and Strategic Relocation

The assembly approved several critical reforms to GAMMA’s governance structure, aimed at aligning the federation with international Olympic standards:

  • Relocation to Switzerland: Members voted to move the GAMMA headquarters from the Netherlands to Switzerland. This strategic shift aligns GAMMA with other major International Federations recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • New Executive Roles: The creation of two new positions—Chair of the Executive Board and Treasurer—was approved to enhance financial transparency and operational accountability.

Vision for the Future: The GAMMA Arena

During his inaugural address, President Hermawan unveiled the ambitious "GAMMA Arena" project. This facility is envisioned as a world-class center for continuous training and education, providing athletes, coaches, and officials from across the globe with a dedicated hub for high-performance development.

The Road to Olympic Recognition

The 2025 Assembly reaffirmed GAMMA’s primary mission: achieving official Olympic recognition. The federation will continue to work closely with the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) to ensure MMA meets the criteria required for inclusion on the global Olympic stage.

Indonesia as a Global MMA Hub

The successful assembly in Bali further solidifies Indonesia's growing influence in the sport. This event follows the successful hosting of the 2024 GAMMA MMA World Championships, which took place in Banten from December 6–14, 2024, setting a high standard for international MMA competition.
